Dustless, Soda & Media Blasting in San Antonio
This page covers two things: on-site dustless and mobile blasting, and choosing the right blasting media. Dustless blasting mixes water with abrasive, which greatly cuts the airborne dust that dry blasting creates. That makes it a good fit for homes, neighborhoods, storefronts and occupied sites where you can't have a cloud of dust.
We bring it on-site for brick paint removal, graffiti removal, pool sandblasting before resurfacing, pool tile calcium removal, driveways and concrete, boats and trailers, and large items that can't come to the shop. For the media side — soda, glass bead, plastic, corn cob and walnut shell — we choose what fits the surface, including log home and cabin blasting.

Why This Matters in San Antonio
San Antonio's climate makes on-site blasting useful in a lot of ways. The very hard, mineral-rich water from the Edwards Aquifer leaves white calcium scale on pool tile, fixtures and metal — a big reason for pool tile calcium removal. Painted brick and stucco homes, and Hill Country log and timber homes and cabins, need gentle stripping before re-staining. Sudden heavy rain and flash flooding — Flash Flood Alley — stains and ages outdoor surfaces. And because many homes and businesses are occupied, the low-dust nature of wet blasting matters. For dustless and media blasting, that means brick paint removal, graffiti, hard-water pool scale and Hill Country log homes are common on-site jobs.
Care & Prevention
After brick paint removal, seal the brick to slow water and stain. After pool tile calcium removal, keep up with water balance so scale doesn't return fast. After log home blasting, stain the bare wood soon — uncovered wood grays and mildews again. For graffiti removal, a sealer can make future cleanup easier. We'll tell you the right next step for your surface.

Pricing Guide
What drives the cost is the size and number of parts, how much old coating and rust has to come off, the surface or substrate, the finish and number of coats, the color choice, any masking, any repairs, removal and reinstallation for installed pieces, and travel distance for mobile work. We never quote blind.
| Job Type | Price | What Affects It |
|---|---|---|
| Brick paint removal | Quoted after we see it | Area, paint layers, brick condition |
| Graffiti removal | Quoted after we see it | Area, surface, paint type |
| Pool tile / pool blasting | Quoted after we see it | Pool size, tile line, scale |
| Log home blasting | Quoted after we see it | Square footage, stain, media |
| Driveway / concrete | Quoted after we see it | Area, condition, travel |
No dollar figures here on purpose — the price depends on the job and travel distance for mobile work. We set your exact price after we see the surface.
Choosing the Best Blasting Media
The media is the abrasive we blast with. Picking the right one is the difference between a clean surface and a damaged one. Here's how the common media line up.
| Media | Best For | Finish |
|---|---|---|
| Soda (baking soda) | Paint and grime on delicate surfaces | Clean, gentle |
| Glass bead | Metal, aluminum, engine parts | Smooth, satin |
| Plastic media | Soft metals, fiberglass, composites | Clean, no pitting |
| Corn cob | Wood, log homes, delicate surfaces | Clean, soft |
| Walnut shell | Wood, log homes, gentle stripping | Clean, soft |
| Harder abrasives | Heavy rust and coatings on steel | Profiled, rough |
Corn Cob & Walnut Shell Blasting
Corn cob blasting and walnut shell blasting are soft organic media. They're gentle enough for wood, log homes and delicate surfaces, stripping old stain, graying and mildew without eating into the material. They leave the surface clean and ready for a fresh stain or finish.
Log Home Restoration & Log Cabin Blasting
The Hill Country has many log and timber homes and cabins. Log home restoration starts with blasting off the old stain, graying and mildew so the logs are clean and ready to re-stain. Corn cob and walnut shell are the usual media — gentle on the wood, tough on the old finish.
A note on lead paint. Paint on homes, brick or metal from before 1978 may contain lead. Older painted surfaces may need to be tested for lead and handled under the rules that apply. We never blast lead paint without the proper precautions.
Is this the right fit? The right method is decided after we see the item or surface in person. Some items may not suit a given process — for example thin sheet metal, plastic, glass, rubber or cast parts that may warp, pit or outgas, or items with lead paint that need special handling. We'll tell you straight if a different approach makes more sense.

Dustless, Soda & Media Blasting FAQs
Is dustless blasting really dust-free?
Not completely — and we won't claim it is. Dustless blasting mixes water with abrasive, which greatly reduces the airborne dust that dry blasting creates. It's much cleaner for homes, neighborhoods, storefronts and occupied sites, but it's not 100% dust-free. We'll tell you what to expect for your specific job.
Can you remove paint from brick without damaging it?
Yes, with the right media and pressure. Brick paint removal and brick paint stripping are common dustless-blasting jobs. We use a wet, gentler abrasive that lifts paint off the brick without eating the brick itself. The method is chosen after we see the brick and the paint, because older or softer brick needs more care.
Do you need to drain the pool for tile calcium removal?
Usually the pool is drained below the tile line for pool tile calcium removal and pool sandblasting before resurfacing. Access to a water source and a drained pool (or a lowered water level) are needed for pool work. We'll walk through exactly what's needed before we come out.
What is the best blasting media for paint removal?
It depends on the surface. For tough paint on steel, harder abrasives work. For paint on brick, wood or delicate surfaces, soda or a wet abrasive is gentler. We choose the media after seeing the job — there's no single best media for everything.
Can corn cob blasting be used on log homes?
Yes. Corn cob blasting and walnut shell blasting are soft organic media that are gentle enough for log home restoration and log cabin blasting. They strip old stain, graying and mildew off logs without damaging the wood, so the logs are ready for a fresh stain.
